"Rozie is wonderful at facilitating difficult conversations. She is both loving and fiercely committed to getting to the truth. I felt very safe as she worked with our group to reach a resolution satisfactory to all."

What's in this Course!
After this introductory section, there will be 10 sections in this course. Each will begin with a short overview of the tactic in question. Each tactic builds on the ones before it, and cumulatively, this course aims to help move you along a trajectory of the 3Ls: Learning, Leadership, and Liberation. There will be a quote or an anecdote related for your reflection, followed by a set of curated resources: videos, articles, or podcasts to reinforce the theme of the chapter.
These will, for the most part, be very easily accessible resources gathered from a lens of popular culture and other educational sources that are easily digestible. But once in a while, there'll be something a little more academic just to provide that opportunity for deeper inquiry and learning... The readings are optional and you should proceed through the material at your own pace.
The “Flip it and Reverse It” section — my homage to Missy Elliot, because I do love her song "Work It," — is where we will flip the context away from the Black/white binary, and begin exploring some of the ways that Communities of Color navigate some of these topics. Some of these considerations may be surprising, and it is entirely not a comprehensive view, but one that might prompt you to reconsider the generic paradigms around some of these issues.
... because we know that we all live within a society that has certain built-in norms and restrictions — particularly around race, but also around gender and a bunch of other identities — and that obeying (or not even recognizing the existence of) these rules of engagement actually hurts us all.
A lot of my learning and teaching is inspired by the work of many amazing people in movement spaces, where frames such as cis-hetero patriarchy, Christian hegemony, ableist supremacy, and other terms are used to describe entrenched and often invisible systems of discrimination and dominance.
And this said, I recognize not everyone is familiar or even comfortable with the heat turned up that high. So in the spirit of calling in and calling on, this course is designed to welcome those who need the spice turned down a level or two as well — as those who want to go deep.
In addition to the reflection sections within each chapter, you will have access to a downloadable journal where all the prompts are collected in one place. Use your personal reflection and journaling space to respond to some of the newer information and concepts that might come your way. No one need see your responses than you.
If you want to write your responses in the digital workbook, just type "wb" as your response, so you can move along in the lesson.
The goal is to help you continue along in a practice.
In most chapters, you'll find bonus information – more readings, things to watch or listen to – that go even more deeply into the topic. These snippets are not mean to be universal or exhaustive, they are a springboard for you to do further investigation or even take action.
The more you know, the better you can be.
Most chapters end with a quiz, because gamification is always a little fun. At the end, you will receive a certificate to acknowledge your participation, and a few extra goodies from Brave Sis Project that I hope will be enjoyable.
Let's go!
